Acceptable Use & Fair Play
The rules for using Chessware fairly and safely, from training and analysis only to no key sharing, no attacks on our services and respect in Discord.
Last updated: 28 October 2026
This policy sets out how you may and may not use Chessware, Chessware Lite, our website, your dashboard and our Discord server (together, the "Services"). It forms part of our Terms of Service and EULA. "We" means [Company legal name].
What Chessware is for
Chessware is a training and analysis tool. Use it to study, review your games, understand your mistakes and practice.
Fair play
Chess platforms and events have rules about outside help, and those rules keep games fair for everyone.
- Don't use Chessware for help during live games on any platform or in any event that forbids outside assistance. This applies to online games, over-the-board events and any other game where the rules ban computer or outside help.
- Know the rules where you play. You're responsible for knowing and following the rules of each platform and event. If you're not sure whether something is allowed, assume it isn't and check with the platform or organizer.
- Review afterwards. Use Chessware to look at your games once they're finished.
Breaking a platform's fair-play rules can also lead that platform to act against your account there, separately from anything we do.
Your account and license keys
- Don't share your account or license key with anyone.
- Don't sell, resell, trade or give away license keys.
- Don't use keys you know were obtained fraudulently or from unauthorized sellers.
- Don't create new accounts to get around a suspension or ban.
- Don't tamper with or bypass license checks, activation or device locking. See the EULA.
Our services and systems
- Don't attack, overload or disrupt our website, servers or Discord bot.
- Don't probe, scan or test our systems for vulnerabilities without our written permission.
- Don't scrape our website, dashboard or documentation, or access them with bots or other automated tools, other than normal search engine indexing.
- Don't try to access accounts, data or areas you aren't authorized to use.
- Don't reverse engineer the Software, except as the law allows (see the EULA).
- Don't upload or send malware or other harmful code.
If you find a security issue, report it privately to [support email] instead of testing it further or sharing it publicly.
Our Discord community
- Treat others with respect. No harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech or discrimination.
- No spam, scams, unsolicited advertising or links to malicious content.
- Don't share illegal content or other people's personal information.
- Don't impersonate our staff or other members.
- Don't post license keys, including your own.
- Follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and any rules posted in our server.
Unlawful use
Don't use the Services for anything illegal, or in a way that infringes anyone's rights, including intellectual property and privacy rights.
Enforcement
If you break this policy, we may, depending on how serious the breach is:
- give you a warning;
- remove content you posted in our Discord server;
- temporarily suspend your account or your access to our Discord server;
- revoke your license keys; or
- permanently ban you from the Services and our Discord server.
We'll usually start with a warning for minor issues, but we may act immediately for serious breaches, such as reselling keys, attacking our systems or breaking fair-play rules. Keys revoked for breaking this policy aren't refunded, except where the law requires. We may also report illegal activity to the relevant authorities.
Reporting a breach
